Our Legislature restricted laws punishing suspected gang members in 2021, because these laws oppress entire neighborhoods with little to no benefit to public safety. Unfortunately, police continue to make arrests and the DA’s continue to file gang allegations on cases with no gang motivation involved at all. Gang enhancements add years onto potential prison sentences.
